2026-2027 National PTA Reflections

What My Culture Means to Me

Every Cougar artist, TK through 6th grade, is invited. Six ways to create, one big theme, and no experience needed. Just make something that's yours.

Start here

Two minutes on how Reflections works and what makes a great entry. Watch it together.

Calling all College Park artists

Create something only your child could make.

This year's theme is "What My Culture Means to Me." No art prodigy required. If they can imagine it, they can enter it. Print the flyer, pick a category, and go for it.

The six categories

Your child can enter one original piece in any of these, up to six pieces total. Each one should reflect this year's theme in their own way.

Dance Choreography

Original choreography, filmed.

Film Production

A short film: animation, narrative, or documentary.

Literature

Prose, poetry, or a short story.

Music Composition

An original musical piece.

Photography

A single original photograph.

Visual Arts

Original 2D or 3D artwork.

Grade divisions

Entries are judged within grade divisions, so kids compete with peers their own age. Since College Park goes through 6th grade, our 6th graders enter the Middle School division.

PrimaryTK / K through Grade 2
IntermediateGrades 3-5
Middle SchoolGrade 6 (our oldest Cougars)
Accessible ArtsAll grades welcome, with division-specific accommodations for students who receive services under IDEA or ADA Section 504.

Why should my child join in?

Unleash creative talents and get inspired.
Express themselves in their own way.
Experience the joy of making art.
Practice critical thinking around a theme.
Earn positive recognition, awards, and prizes.
Build confidence in front of the whole school.
One thing to remember: your child does not have to be an art prodigy. This is about their interpretation, however it looks or sounds. If it meets the rules, we say just go for it.

How to participate

Review the rules.

A quick look at the entry guidelines before you start. See the official rules.

Pick your categories.

One piece per category, up to six. Multiple pieces in one category can be disqualified.

Create the artwork.

Add a title and a 10 to 100 word artist statement about how it connects to the theme.

Fill out the entry form.

One form per piece, signed by student and parent. Download the entry form.

Turn it in at school by Monday, October 19.

Bring the completed form and artwork to the front office. Watch for results from our reviewer panel about three weeks later!

Get inspired: helping your child begin

A little encouragement goes a long way. Here's how to spark the idea, then step back and let them run with it.

Talk about the theme first. Ask what culture means to them: family traditions, food, language, holidays, music, the stories behind their name, where grandparents grew up.
Follow their interests. A kid who loves soccer might photograph it; one who loves music might compose a song. Let the category fit the child, not the other way around.
Keep it low-pressure. One afternoon at the kitchen table is plenty. It does not have to be polished or perfect to be worth entering.
Then get out of the way. Set them up, then let them make their own choices, even the messy ones. The finished piece should surprise you a little.
The one rule: the artwork must be made entirely by your child. You can talk it through, supply the materials, and cheer them on, but every idea, choice, and brushstroke has to be theirs.

Intermedia3º a 5º grado
Escuela Media6º grado (nuestros Cougars mayores)

Recibir reconocimiento, premios y regalos.

Lleven el formulario completo y la obra a INSERT DROP-OFF LOCATION HERE.
